Debbie’s Doha Diaries

WHERE YOU’LL HOPEFULLY LEARN A LITTLE AND LAUGH A LOT

Welcome to this Blog offering you a glimpse of life in Qatar as a newbie ex-pat from South Africa. From packing up to finding one’s feet in the smallest country in the Persian Gulf (yes, you’ll need to check the map) with temperatures up in the 40Cs in summer, my hope is that these blogs will inform, entertain and inspire you. And if not, at least the kids will know what their mum has been doing.

PLAYING CENTRE FORWARD WITH WORDS

Debbie Derry is a South African with British roots whose career has always centred around words and telling other people’s stories. So, words have always been centre stage and centre forward for her.

She’s worked on newspapers, scribbled for magazines, put publications together and is still plying her trade as a communicator in higher education.

And now, for fun (and to ensure family and friends know what she is up to), she writes a blog, sharing her impressions, experiences and insights into her new life in Qatar.

Debbie’s a sports fan too, so chances are good that you’ll have a better idea what to expect of Doha as it hosts the FIFA World Cup from November 2022 this year.
